Derk Bienen

Managing Partner of BKP Development & Research GmbH

Derk Bienen is a founder and Managing Partner of BKP Development & Research GmbH, a German research and consulting firm which specialises in trade and investment issues. For ten years prior to this, Derk worked as a consultant and project manager for a German development consulting firm. During the past 20 years, he has worked in approximately 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and South East Europe, mostly in the framework of technical assistance projects.

 

Derk also lectures on trade, regional integration, competition and industrial policy at various universities, and has been Honorary Associate Professor at the Department of Economics of Addis Ababa University since 2009. Derk studied Economics and Political Science at the University of Tübingen (Germany) and the University of the Andes in Mérida (Venezuela). He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Göttingen (Germany) in 2005.
