Keith J. Benes

Keith J. Benes is an Adjunct Professor at American University School of International Service, and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. His research is focused on national and international policy frameworks that will address climate change and facilitate the global transition to clean energy.  Previously he served with U.S. Department of State as an Attorney-Adviser, where he provided strategic, analytical, and policy expertise on the negotiations under the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, on environmental aspects of trade disputes, and represented the U.S. in investor-state arbitrations. Mr. Benes holds a JD from Georgetown University Law Center (magna cum laude), an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science (with merit), and a BA from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
