ICTSD's CYBER LAUNCH
Bridges Russia
Bridges Trade BioRes Review
Trade and Environment: A Resource Book
|
|
Over the last ten years, the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development has developed a unique ability to bring trade negotiations and policy formulation within sustainable development objectives, thereby promoting an understanding of trade rules and policy-making
processes.
Originally conceived as a non-partisan bridge between issues and processes related to international trade policy-making and sustainable development, the Centre is the only non-profit organisation that devotes its entire programme to promoting the incorporation of multi-stakeholder perspectives and pro-sustainable development outcomes in trade negotiation and policy-making systems. |
Today, the Centre is at the forefront of efforts to integrate policy, knowledge and participation into the framework of sustainable development. Our publications reflect this strength in innovation and it is with great pleasure that we welcome three new publications into our programme.
Bridges Russia, Bridges Trade BioRes Review, and the Trade and Environment Resource Book all target stakeholders and regions where information on trade and sustainability is disparate. We are confident that these publications will help guide stakeholders through the complexities of trade and negotiations on multilateral agreements, and serve to identify new and emerging issues and sustainable solutions.

BRIDGES TRADE BIORES REVIEW
|
|
 |
Bridges Trade BioRes Review is ICTSDs newest periodical, which offers unparalleled information at the interface of trade, environment and natural resources.
Engaging stakeholders in both the trade and environment communities, in the developing and developed world, Bridges Trade BioRes Review provides background information and analysis, as well as research updates and opinion pieces that complement the already successful biweekly BioRes news updates.
The suite of BioRes publications helps readers understand the massive and often complex information flow relevant to the intersection of trade, environment and natural resources, enabling better-informed choices and policies that support sustainable development. Environment needs to be put at the centre of all planning and decision-making processes and trade needs to be seen as a means of achieving sustainable development and poverty reduction; not an end in
itself.
(Hussein Abaza, Chief, Economics and Trade Unit, United Nations Environment Programme)

TRADE AND
ENVIRONMENT: A RESOURCE BOOK
|
|
 |
Against a backdrop of rapid global integration of economies and ever-increasing environmental challenges, crafting international frameworks on trade that respond to sustainability has become challenging and complex.
To help navigate this policy arena, the newly-released publication Trade and Environment: A Resource Book provides clear, unambiguous and easy-to-understand background information.
The book includes pertinent analysis on a broad set of trade and environment discussions and features cutting-edge opinion pieces by key experts and stakeholders. While exploring a wide range of aspects within the international policy debate, the book gives special emphasis to developing country concerns, which are often under-represented in the global discussions and central to the quest for meaningful responses to the sustainability challenges.
Stemming from consultative processes in six regions and produced jointly by ICTSD and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the book is a truly collaborative effort, with as many as 61 contributing authors from 34 different countries.
The new trade and environment reference book will be a valuable resource for delegates participating in the WTO Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE) special session negotiations. The background information provided both on the issues dealt with specifically at the CTE and the environmental implications of the overall Doha negotiations is useful. Many of the smaller delegations struggle to keep up with the multiplicity of issues and having a source to help them navigate the negotiations will be invaluable.
(H.E. Ambassador Mario Matus, Permanent Mission of Chile to the WTO)
