ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND WTO NEGOTIATIONS
AN ICTSD INFORMAL LUNCH DISCUSSION WITH PROFESSOR LYNN MYTELKA
Organised by ICTSD
Salle C2 World Meteorological Organisation (WMO)
Geneva, Switzerland, 6 June 2006

Description | Programme | Documentation | Participants

Programme

This meeting will feature a presentation from Professor Lynn Mytelka regarding the ongoing WTO negotiations on environmental goods and services, and in particular on the opportunities and constraints to implementing technology transfer policies. In-depth analysis from the renewable energy and air-pollution control sectors will follow, along with open discussion. The objective is to highlight environmental protection, development and technology transfer issues that WTO Members could consider within the framework of WTO negotiations and those that could possibly be addressed outside the WTO framework.

Professor Mytelka's findings and analysis are based on research commissioned by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) as part of its ongoing project on environmental goods and services (see documentation).

This informal lunch discussion aims to provide an opportunity for key trade delegates to listen to and engage in an open discussion on an important issue that underpins the gains that developing countries might be able to obtain through the negotiations on environmental goods and services.
