The International
Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) and the
Research and Information Systems for Developing Countries (RIS)
are pleased to invite you to participate in a discussion meeting
on the World Trade And Development Report 2007. This meeting
will be held at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO),
on Tuesday, 5 June 2007. Below is a tentative program of the
meeting.
While the
Doha Round was launched as a “development round”, little progress
has been made on issues of concern to developing countries.
It is against this backdrop that the Research and Information
System for Developing Countries (RIS) (New Delhi, India), has
published the World Report on Trade and Development 2007. The
report amongst other things proposes an agenda for building
a more development-friendly and sustainable trading system,
including ways of revitalizing the Doha Round of trade talks.
It also highlights the potential of strengthening South-South
co-operation in building a development-friendly trading system.
The purpose
of the meeting is to discuss the contents of the report, take
stock of the state of play in the Doha Round negotiations and
suggest ways in which a development friendly outcome can be
achieved.
