Description
The
National Meeting is intended to provide a forum where the findings
of a case study on services trade in Egypt commissioned by ICTSD
will be presented. The case study, which focuses on maritime transport
and related logistics services, seeks to analyse the relevance
of the services sector in advancing the sustainable development
goals of Egypt, the opportunities and risks appurtenant to liberalising
trade in selected services sectors or modes of supply and possible
options regarding the corollary regulatory reform and other flanking
measures that may be needed to achieve these goals. The National
Meeting shall likewise aim to facilitate consideration from a
medium- or long-term perspective the advisability of the recommended
options for market and regulatory reform. Specifically, the meeting
aims in the context of maritime transport and logistics services
to:
-
Strengthen
the capacities of engaged actors to better understand and integrate
the policy issues at the interface of trade in services and
sustainability,
-
Facilitate the exchange of views among a variety of stakeholders
engaged in services trade-policy making in Egypt,
-
Help
identify commonalities and differences in the government's and
the different stakeholders' priorities and approaches to trade
in services policy-making at various levels of decision-making.
The National
Meeting, though targeted primarily at relevant policy-makers, should
also be useful for other relevant stakeholders influencing the policy-process
such as academia, civil society groups, researchers and the media.
