It
is with pleasure that the Africa Partnership Forum Support Unit
(APF) and the International Centre for Sustainable Development
(ICTSD) invite you for a lunch discussion focused on African concerns
in international trade. The lunch meeting will be held on Wednesday,
12 September 2007 at 12h30 at the WMO. The Africa Partnership
Forum Support Unit (APF) was created during the Evian Summit with
the objective of facilitating increased dialogues amongst the
G8 and the African Union/NEPAD through connecting key actors of
bilateral and multilateral African development. (www.africapartnershipforum.org).Composed
of personal representatives of head of States, OECD governments
and AU/NEPAD, the group focuses on the progress of established
agreements amongst African states and their partners, with a view
to enhancing African development. APF's next meeting will be held
in Alger on the 12-13 November 2007. Discussions will be held
on investments and the development of African agricultural infrastructures
in the international market. This is one of the main issues that
require evaluation within the framework of mutual exam of efficiency
in development prospective, directed by the Economic Commission
for Africa (CEA) and OECD. In order to help this process, the
APF has drafted an initial report on the African situation in
international trade (see annex), which ICTSD has assisted via
consultations with different actors, chief amongst them, the representative
of African permanent missions in Geneva. The main objective of
these consultations is to collect more information from delegates
on the main themes that should underline and support this synthesis.
Attached is an annex entitled, Advancement Report: Africa and
International Trade, which was written by the support unit of
APF and which will be serving as a guideline for our discussions.
Any suggestions that will reflect the preoccupation of Africa
in terms of international trade are welcomed. The forthcoming
lunch will be informal and open, led by a representative of ICTSD
and the technical advisor of the support unit of APF. The lunch
will also bring together half a dozen WTO delegates from African
countries.
The
final report will be available at the end of September.
