In
the context of the 10th Rountable meeting for Pacific Islands Countries
on WTO and Regional Trade Agreements and Provisions, ICTSD is organizing
a dialogue on prospects for realising sustainable development goals
through a stimulation of effective regional markets in the region
and the region's integration to global markets.For example the ICTSD
country studies on Agriculture in Papua New Guinea and Fiji will
be shared with other countries in the region. ICTSD will address
in varying detail selected Agriculture, Fisheries, Special and Differential
Treatment and regional integration issues that concern the Pacific
Region. The regional dialogue brings together senior trade officials.
trade negotiators, the private sector and civil society from the
Pacific region to discuss the broader regional implications of agricultural:
ICTSDs input will focus on:
1.
The flexibilities in agriculture, specifically special products
(SP) and Special safeguard mechanism (SSM) and implications for
sustainable development. This should provide lessons for the ongoing
EPAs negotiations.
2.
Special and differential treatment: a situational approach to addressing
vulnerability and competitiveness in trade negotiations
3. Fisheries and trade in the pacific region and the The state of
the fisheries negotiations in the WTO
4.
Senior officials will also look forward to trade negotiations in
the region post EPAs and Doha negotiations.
