Environmental Law (CEDA), with the support of the Andean Community
(CAN), the International Institute for Environment and Development
(IIED) the Latin American University for Social Sciences (FLACSO),
and the International Centre of Trade and Sustainable Development
(ICTSD).
This
Forum is being carried out within the framework of Clima Latino,
an event hosted by the Andean Community Secretariat and the Municipalities
of Quito and Guayaquil, with the support of the Ecuadorian Government,
and which will be held the 17th and 18th of October 2007, in Quito
Ecuador.
The attendants
of the forum will be researchers, enterprises, social organizations,
international organizations and representatives of the governments
from the region in order to discuss the best alternatives for policy-making
and legislation in this matter.
OBJECTIVE
This Forum on biofuels aims to open the discussion on the different
socio-economic, political, commercial and environmental elements
that are related to the production of biofuels as an alternative
energy to combat the climate change effects. Biofuels production,
trade and use are directly related to various environmental and
socio-economic elements that need to be analysed in order to guide
their development in a sustainable manner. Precisely, the objective
of this forum is to bring to the table data and analysis, in order
to use such information for policymaking, especially for defining
public policies on biofuels promotion in the Latin American countries.
