Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on Trade Opportunities in the Context of a Green Economy Transition : Jointly Organised by ICTSD, ITC and UNEP
ICTSD, ITC and UNEP are jointly organising a multi-stakeholder dialogue with the purpose of identifying and maximising trade opportunities for developing countries in the context of the transition to a green economy, in order to enhance development opportunities, poverty eradication and social equity. The dialogue seeks to draw pertinent policy lessons based on concrete examples in this regard. It represents a distinct component of a larger project aimed at distilling policy lessons on such green trade opportunities, comprising both a research and analysis component and an outreach component (three policy dialogues). Two policy dialogues will be held in the Africa and Latin America regions, while the third takes place in Rio de Janeiro in conjunction with the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
With 50,000 participants expected to attend, Rio+20 will provide a major opportunity to reach out to the environmental community and beyond on the topic of trade opportunities related to the green economy transition. ICTSD, UNEP and ITC are organising a full-day dialogue among relevant stakeholders, focusing specifically on green trade opportunities. This multi-stakeholder dialogue would provide ample opportunity for in-depth, informed exchange, for furthering the debate and drawing pertinent policy lessons.
It will be held back-to-back with a Trade and Sustainable Development Symposium organised by ICTSD and CEBRI on the 19th of June. This will allow participants to attend and contribute to both events. The TSD Symposium will comprise a broader set of topics, with one session dedicated to green economy opportunities specifically.
Both events will take place at the same venue, the Rio Othon Palace in Copacabana.
