Securing food in volatile markets: How can trade policy help?
With food prices again recently at record heights, the dialogue will be a timely opportunity for negotiators, policymakers and experts to discuss how agricultural trade policies and rules could help overcome food insecurity. Participants will discuss both the causes and consequences of recent price spikes, and examine the extent to which trade policy reform could help governments reduce volatility and better cope with its effects in the future. With political leaders devoting renewed attention to the challenge of volatility in fora such as the G-20, at a time when the multilateral trading system itself faces unprecedented challenges, participants will also look at how policy change can be implemented in an evolving governance framework.
