INTELLECTUAL
PROPERTY AND ACCESS TO CLEAN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES:
AN ANALYSIS OF SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC, BIOFUEL AND WIND TECHNOLOGIES.
By John H. Barton. International Centre for Trade and Sustainable
Development, December 2007. This study examines the potential role
of intellectual property in the development and diffusion of clean
energy technologies. It explores whether or not there will be IP
barriers to access clean technologies and know-how in developing
countries. In order to assess IP implications for developing countries,
the paper examines the technology and industrial structure of three
clean energy sectors: solar photo-voltaic (PV), bio-mass for fuel
and wind energy technologies. The paper concentrates on three technologically
advanced developing countries including Brazil, China and India.

SOUTH ASIAN
POSITIONS IN THE WTO DOHA ROUND: IN SEARCH OF A TRUE DEVELOPMENT
AGENDA (Volume 2). CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics,
and Environment, September 2007. The researchers tried to analyse
the possible changes that could take place to further consolidate
the positions of the South Asian countries. The five different issues
that are covered in this book as five different chapters are: Agriculture;
Special Products (SPs) and Special Safeguard Measures (SSM), Non-tariff
barriers (NTBs) on industrial products (as part of the NAMA negotiations),
Services; Operationalisation of LDC modalities and Article IV of
GATS; Developmental implications of duty-free and quota-free (DFQF)
market access for LDCs; and Preference erosion and aid for trade.
On each issue, the research has taken into consideration concerns
and perceptions of different stakeholders such as NGOs, trade bodies,
industry bodies, trade unions, WTO experts, women's groups, etc.
