Abid A. Burki
Dr. Abid A. Burki is Professor of Economics and Director, Centre for Management and Economic Research at Lahore University of Management Sciences. He graduated in 1996 with a Ph.D. in Economics from Kansas State University,U.S.A. He also holds M.A. degrees in Economics from University of Manitoba, Canada and University of the Punjab. He joined LUMS as visiting faculty in August 2002 and took up a position as Associate Professor in the Department of Economics in August 2003.Before joining LUMS, he was for seventeen years on the economics faculty of Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, most recently as Professor and Chairman of Department of Economics. He has also held teaching position in Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan (1981-1985) and taught courses in Kansas State University, USA. His research focuses broadly in applied microeconomics and development economics. He is the author of over 50 scientific articles published in journals including Applied Economics, World Development, Energy Economics, and Pakistan Development Review, or presented in international conferences. He has done consulting for several national and international organizations including Toyota Indus Motor, Tetra Pak, Planning Commission, Actionaid, LEAD-Pakistan and the World Bank. Dr. Burki has supervised one Ph.D., 18 M.Phil. and 13 Master's theses. In recognition of his services he was conferred President of Pakistan's academic distinction award 'Izaz-i-Fazeelat' 2001.
