The ICTSD China Office, China Institute for WTO Studies at UIBE (CIWTO) and China Society for WTO Studies (CWTO) are organizing an international dialogue titled as China after Bali: Role of China in completing the Doha Round and Reinvigorating the WTO on Thursday 29 May 2014 at Beijing Friendship Hotel （北京友谊宾馆, China.
With the agreement on the Bali Package at the ninth WTO Ministerial Conference – a major achievement – there is a renewed focus on the conclusion of the Doha Development Agenda.
However, the future of the Doha Round and the WTO remains uncertain. To some extent, it will be defined by big trading economies - developed and emerging - individually and collectively. One of the key variables is how China will interpret the situation and how it will act and react.
2014 will be a critical year as Bali set a deadline of twelve months to agree on a work plan for concluding the Doha Round. It is in this context, the ICTSD China Office initiated this project in partnership with CIWTO and CWTO. This workshop will discuss China’s post-Bali strategy in the WTO, role of China in completing the Doha Round, and China’s policies in others WTO negotiations out of the Doha.
The organizers would like to thank Chinese Ministry of Commerce and its Mission to the WTO for their support. We are grateful to the UK and Norwegian Embassies in China for their funding of this research project.
